Sorting and Classifying

This week in math we were learning to sort and classify in multiple ways. We had a very large pile of construction paper that we decided we wanted to have sorted by color. We all worked as a team and sorted every piece of construction paper into color piles!

On Thursday someone came into our classroom and dumped out all of Mrs. Meck's Math manipulatives. Again, we came together as a team and sorted them so that we had all the manipulative in the right container!

This week we not only learned how to sort but how to be a great team player!

Friday Friendship Salad!!!

Yay, we finished our first week of school!!! We had a lot of fun talking about how to be a good friend on Friday! Our friends shared qualities of a good friend and then we also discussed qualities of a bad friend. We talked about how a fruit salad is like a classroom, all separated we are good but once we work together we are complete! Every student came up and dumped a bag of fruit into the bowl representing themselves. Then I brought out a rotten banana and asked the students how they would feel if I added the rotten banana to the fruit salad we were about to eat? They all screamed, "NOOO"! This brought up a discussion about how if there's one rotten banana in fruit salad it would be ruined.  Just like if there was one friend that made bad choices or didn't work together our class wouldn't work! Our goal is to never be a rotten banana!

After all the discussion we finally got to sit down and eat some fruit salad! We all loved it!

We all made it through the First Day!!!!

Wow can you believe your baby made it through their first day of kindergarten! Not a single tear was shed (from the children at least!!!) We had a blast today, we read the story Kissing Hand and talked about how we felt when we came into school today. We learned about our classroom rules, how to walk in the hallway, we painted our hands for a fun puzzle to do at home, ate snack, went to art class, we did a lot! I can't wait to see all of my friends tomorrow!

Just a few reminders:
1. Belts are mandatory if you would like beltouotlet.com has magnetic belts for $3.95. I suggest getting one of those. If not the students MUST know how to take their belt on and off to go to the bathroom this is not something I am able to do.
2. Pick up starts at 2:45 I would recommend getting their a little early so you are at the front of the line, as it is a process to get through. Or you may park and walk up to get your child.
3. Your child needs to come with a backpack and their homework folder everyday!
4. Enjoy your night with your child!

Have a great night!

School Supplies

I would greatly appreciate if you were able to drop your student's school supplies off before the first day of school. I will be at school everyday, besides Sunday, until school starts. I will be in meetings Wednesday through Friday but the front office is aware that I am allowing you to drop school supplies off in the classroom.

Having all school supplies put away and organized before school starts will help ensure the classroom is prepared for a very exciting first day! This will also help my little friends not fall over with those very heavy backpacks!

Don't forget to have your student wear their green name tag on the first day!
