Thank you!

Thank you to Carmyn and her family for donating one of their digital cameras to our classroom! We are very excited to start using it in centers. Students will now be able to take a picture of the work they did in centers. I can then look back in the pictures and see exactly what they did in their center!

Check back soon to see your new photographers in action! (Don't mind fingers, silly faces and blurry pictures I am sure they will be mixed in!)

AR Clarification and Update!

Just to clarify the list of AR books that I sent home is just an idea of books on or close to your student's level. All Scholastic books are AR, which is about every book that your child will pick up. You can get any book at our library the public library or the Scholastic website and it will work.

Also if your child is not at the point where they can read a book on their own you are allowed to read the book to them. This is kindergarten and I don't expect that all students are reading fluently. AR is to go over comprehension of books either read to or read independently. Although, please know if your child is able to read I want all of their books to be read independently.

Thank you to all the parents who have been emailing me with the books their student has read! I appreciate the help in your child's education. Every student that reaches the goal of 10 points by the end of the year will receive a free movie ticket! Each six weeks when the student reaches their goal they get to put their name on a popcorn piece on our AR Board!

Happy Reading!

WOW.. Can you believe it halfway through the year!

I can't believe how fast this year had gone! I don't know about you but I was ready to get back to school, I missed all of my little friends

We are now in the home stretch to First Grade. This half of the year is focused on how to work in first grade, how to behave in first grade, and all of the expectations that go along with first grade. So be prepared expectations will be a little tougher with homework, handwriting and behavior.

We are starting AR in full force this semester as well! Each student is expected to get 3 points for each six weeks, the books that they read are .5 of a point. This means I should receiving an email once a week for your child to take an AR test in order for them to reach their goals. They will be taking these tests independently during center time. Please be sure to go over comprehension questions with your student on the books they read prior to emailing me. If you need books to read: Scholastic is a great place to purchase your student books to start filling their home library, public library, or the books they bring home from the school library!

As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me!
