Columbus Day Voyage

We learned about Christopher Columbus and his voyage to the new land. We traded with the Native Americans (Mr. Karanci, Ms. Baughman, Ms. Hodgson, Ms. Page, and Ms. Rash's class). We traded for cinnamon a new spice from the new land, pineapple a deliciously sweet fruit, popcorn, pumpkin, shells, cotton, and feathers. As we traded for each item we learned why it was important to Christopher Columbus and what he used it for. We learned how on their journey they brought dried meat, dried fish, and bread because those items would keep for a long time. We also discussed how they didn't know when they would be able to find or trade for more food so they had to watch how much they ate. (Each student received a bag of snacks that they could eat but it had to last them the whole week. All of the students did a great job but they were super excited at the end of the week when they could actually eat all of it!)

Here are a few photos of our Voyage! We had a blast!

Brown Bag Special Volunteers

I am in need of a few Brown Bag Special Volunteers on Monday!

We are going to be playing a few games for our Math Unit this week and I need some help cutting out the pieces. Please email me if you are interested and I will send it home in your child's backpack on Monday.

I appreciate your help in advance!

Mrs. Meck

Sign up Genius

We are starting something new in our class, Sign up Genius! This is going to be a way for parents to sign up for different things and know if someone else already volunteered.

I am going to try it out for our Columbus Day Activity that is coming up in a couple of weeks!

I feel as though this will help eliminate excess donations and clarity of what I actually need you to bring. I truly appreciate all of the donations for apple week and I could not have done it with out all of your help!

I have never used this before so please bare with me as I figure out how it works! If this goes well I am thinking about using it for donations as well as classroom help!

Thanks,
Mrs. Meck

How am I getting Home?

Please don't forget to send the How am I getting home paper back. This helps our dismissal process when we actually know where students are supposed to be Many students are missing their clubs because parents are not notifying their students or myself of these clubs. Teachers do not receive this information unless you give it to us.

Book Club Reminder

Scholastic Book orders are available each month and I will submit the order on the 15th of every month. Please follow the Scholastic Book Order tab on the right for more information!!

We already have  a few parents that order books for their children! I am sure they will be very excited to receive their books next week!

Guess Who Am I?

In Social Studies we are learning about ourselves and what makes each of us special. Today we did a really exciting activity where each person drew themselves and the class guess who they thought it was. Here are some of our illustrated drawings.
